The beginnings of School House Lofts started with renowned Ottawa architect Francis C. Sullivan in 1912 when he was commissioned to design a school for the French Catholic School Board. As with most projects of its kind at the time budget constraints forced Sullivan to design a sturdy, practical building to serve its purpose which it did until 1998. Almost 100 years later some of the then practical design aspects of the building have become elements that shape the city's architectural heritage.
Douglas Hardie Architects is one of the capital's foremost architectural firms having worked on a wide variety of commercial and residential projects all over the city. Hardie and his team bring to School House Lofts not only a wealth of knowledge for distributing space, but a remarkable appreciation for this beautiful heritage building.
After a thorough study of the building and its detailing, Hardie Architects has come up with 12 unique loft apartments that will be thoroughly modern with a distinct heritage flavour. The 8 townhomes designed for the site will be both a tribute to the school building and a work of fine architecture on their own. |
